Carpe Diem #854 happiness

timeless beauty –
the glint of polished pebbles
in the crystal brook

© Chèvrefeuille

happiness shared
as we walk through the steppes
and the Altai Mountains
unconditional love
as we walk our path together

© Chèvrefeuille

on the wings of birds
the faint reflection of the sunset –
the sound of the wind

shadows on the wall
one single candle shines its light
towards the world

after the rainstorm
I sit down on the porch
smelling the fresh air

Lady Lee, that’s me
bounces and could do cartwheel
happy to be free

from the Philippines
mum to HRH the son
Him Indoors my love

sun, sea and sand
more fun in the Philippines
with my family

love is happiness
you and me against the world
always, forever

a nice cup of tea
ringing my Mom and my son
a long, Sunday bath

ice-cream in the park
cycling in the beer garden
swimming in the sea

“Remember, remember,
the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
We see no reason why
Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!”
– words to Guy Fawkes rhyme

penny for the guy
children chant as they prepare
for the bonfire night

Guy Fawkes and his mates
failed secret plot and treason
fifth of November

fireworks display
big bonfires all over town
on cold autumn night

as the sun shines
sweet spring, enjoy life’s offer
a welcoming sight

before the dusk
sculpture of silky thread
the last of the light

gleams like a full moon
golden as the crisp leaves
summer is over

Carpe Diem Special #178 Michael Dylan Welch’s “first day of school”

first day of school—
I eat my buckwheat pancakes
in silence

© Michael Dylan Welch

Our son’s first day of school was also the day we moved to our new house. So he left in our old house and came home in our new house. It was also raining that day. We gave him a big bag full of sweets and other little things like pencils and crayons. He also carried his first school bag. We went to a Chinese Restaurant when he came home.

First day of school
Bag full of stickers and crayons
Such a big school

He met new friends
His eyes full of wonder
A new beginning
