Great Grandma

(Awarded 1st Place) Great Grandmother by SFC Lance Widner – Division 1 (Active Duty Military) CC BY 2.0

THIS WEEK’S WORDS come from “Ghazal for White Hen Pantry” by Jamila Woods: brown, friends, white, palm, born, burnt, consonants, windows, unmarked, sins, paint, pantry

In her palm a new born baby
Unmarked by sins and consonants
Great Grandma smiling with glee
She can see the family semblance

Outside the windows friends waving
In the pantry some flours were taken
The can see Great Grandma blooming
And Dad beams with pride with his apron

Baking brown bread but they got burnt
The children tried to help but were too late
Never mind everything can be relearnt
The main thing is they’re all feeling great

Decompose – Photo Challenge #85 and Wordle #85

That photo has been in the water
At first it was such a blur
Poor thing, it’s not submersible
Got no idea, good to be baffled

Been immersed in a large bed of kelp
I don’t think I need some help
Luckily I was able to save it
Didn’t even ruin my outfit

In the middle of it being mutilated
Tried hard to get it out of the mud
Could have migrated somewhere far
Could have been so bizarre

I looked at it in my nonchalant way
At first it was all grey
My God, such a beautiful face
So charming, so full of grace

The melanin still visible, tanned
You could be a model of a famous brand
In this plexus of society, you’re an enigma
God knows how long you’ve been in an aqua

And together with the nickel that I’ve found
I need to find out all the background
In this phase of my life where I’m confused
In my ungainly way, I found some focus
Something to ponder, to solve a mystery

Somewhere In Between – Photo Challenge #84 and Wordle #84

Somewhere in between I exist
One could easily have me missed
People might find me loathsome
For many years this is how I became
Especially with my dreadful birthmark
Which became my very own trademark

I used to have auburn hair, now mostly grey
My hands across my broad shoulders splayed
Those beard, they were never there before
And they would tell you how loud I snore
I could be like the mighty Acanthus – thorny
And surviving in this tumultuous world

But as more time elapsed, my odds of being
Would grow progressively slim
I now speak in a very business-like tone
The sudden flare of anger gone from my voice
This is a strange and unaccountable fact
But I still say the occasional acidic comments

Careful – Photo Challenge

This week, show us something careful — a photo taken with care, a person being careful, or a task or detail requiring care.

This is Him Indoor’s second ongoing project – HMS Victory – a model boat. The first one he did, the HMS Bounty took a year to finish it. The amount of work or detail requiring care he did/he’s doing on his projects is amazing.
