Realities of Life

She would have never thought that life would turn out like this. Growing up as one of the rich kids she always thought that being poor was a life-choice, that poor people were just lazy or uneducated and that this would be the reason for them to end up on the streets. Now she knew better. Being poor was not a choice. Everything could change in a heartbeat.

She fell in love. As soon as she saw him, she knew he was the answer to her dreams. The only man who could make her happy. Still, people were intrigue as to why she chose him – he’s not rich, a working student from a single family. His mother brought him up. And her parents paid everything to have the wedding bells. After that, they were basically on their own.

Ten years later, with a husband who was just made redundant and two small children, she has to make ends meet. Walking at the centre of her avenue and looking at the different shops, she wished there would be some change left after she bought their food. She wanted to buy a Christmas tree for the family. She imagined the children’s faces when they see the Christmas tree. That it would be like magic to them, especially if there were presents underneath the tree. But that would mean she has to work overtime and probably miss paying some bills. She used to be a carefree rich girl, now she’s a poor working woman making ends meet.

As The Trees Sway

PHOTO PROMPT- © Rochelle Wisoff-Fields

As the trees sway, I felt that weird shifting shoots and a feathery light object grazed my skin. I’ve seen some sparks in that scarlet sky. Did I just hear some thunder? Before I get wet, I came in and closed the door and looked out our kitchen window. I heard the door creaked, it needed oiling. Anyway, there was no doubt that something or someone was out there, probably lost or hiding in a hole. Oh, Peter why did you leave me alone in this forsaken place? The aliens are coming to get me, I’m sure.

She Used To Have Everything

handmade-christmas-decorations-green-holiday-decor-1

She was putting up the ornaments. Some of them they’d bought together back then. Most of the ones they purchased in that little shop in that little lane were long gone. So was he. The tree used to be bigger back then, but so was the house she shared with him and the kids. The kids… They would be here soon. Carefully she picked another ornament, making sure she wouldn’t drop it.

Please continue…

No, she wouldn’t drop anything anymore. She blinked and a tear fell from her right eye. She used to have a basket full of ripe fruit and vegetables, a nest full of eggs and birds, a house with a garden, a husband and two perfect kids – she used to have everything. She thought she had reached the stars but because she wasn’t clever, they were all taken out of her hand. One mistake, one passion for pump flesh, someone younger, who by the way, didn’t stay with her long – and she lost everything. How she wish she has another chance, to make amends. She has seen her errors and now she wants to go back to where she was.

Inner Moonlight

collage-11

Follow your inner moonlight
Things you do is such an excite
Don’t hide the madness
That’s you and what’s the fuss?

You are the soul of the universe
Take a hint from the verse
Fresh and lingering as the new day
The colourful chameleon that’s not grey

It tends to change its colour as it sees fit
It’s stress-free just like changing an outfit
Fine range of drinks for urbane palates
Good quality wine like gold with 24 carats

Spend some time in the sun till toasty brown
Life is good, go and have some fun uptown
Mix with the cool people of different sex
You can assess them, don’t even need specs

The subtleness of pastel colour suits you
You charm them, men are always in a queue
Reading classic fantasy yields rich imagination
Create your own wonderland and have some fun

Light Picture It & Write

candles

I’m falling on the edge of the abyss
I’m muddled but don’t want to give it a miss
I do not lead a holy life and I feel guilty
I come to you and need your advice badly
My flesh is weak and I’m drifting away
I acted like a fool and I was led astray
It was a pretty tame affair but still hidden
What was done couldn’t be undone
A secret so to speak in the mist of tides
I wish I could just take them in strides
I know this too will pass but I need the light
Light at the end of the tunnel for my plight

On Love and Marriage

077dd9b195046639_LoveWeddingMarriage

As students we managed to scrape by
Not going out, staying at students’ halls
Getting after-school work and living the hard way
Every dish is important so we don’t leave any
Roast on Sunday would be curried or stir-fried the next
We helped plant some vegetables at his parents’ allotment
And freeze all the produce – potatoes, carrots, beans and fruit
Now, we looked back and silently laugh – we’ve endured a lot
Sometimes large tears brimmed in our eyes when we recall
We’ve gone through thick and thin and we are still together
We’ve climbed the highest mountains, crossed the seven seas
Survived all the storms, challenges and hindrances and we’re still us
Till death do us part, we promised each other as we peck each other’s lips

Valour and Courage

“Valour is stability, not of legs and arms, but of courage and the soul.” ~ Michel de Montaigne

“At the end of another long day, and too many more ahead to even think about about, Sam took a moment to gather his thoughts.”
He yearned for peace in his waking hours. The flames were still bright red. Burning for safety. Pebbles rolled along the cliffs and soft sedimentary rocks had eroded away. Sam bent to touch the clay beneath his feet. Gathering his thoughts, he remembered his friends who were injured and those who didn’t come back alive. Numerous friends and comrades who had shown great valour and courage during the war. He knew that the war was over but the cost to people in human suffering was immeasurable.

“Miss Grace” and I

This week’s photo prompt is provided by pixabay.com (free to use photos).

“Miss Grace” was my first love
I’ve always drove with my glove
As I buckled my belt and navigate
Miss Grace was a witness to my dates
I knew we’d see visions together
As I knew all her noise and whir
For years and years we were together
Not bad for such an old banger
Humming along the way, lots of places
And every time, I always get a real buzz
Gained lots of experience, with life and love
And sometimes I gave her a strong shove
Now it’s time she rest with dignity
It’s all over our driving spree
Put the drills we’d perfected on the side
I looked at her with such great pride

One More Day – FFF18 and Wordle 143

les-mis

One more day to illuminate
Me on the priorities of life
I don’t want to be a dead weight
And I don’t want any strife

One more day to storm
The challenges and hindrances
I’m sure I could still perform
What’s all this fuzz?

One more day to pool
Resources for the common good
I don’t want to be cruel
With the frosty weather I withstood

One more day to create
Significant impact on you
I need you, I tell it straight
Before I say adieu

One more day to haunt
Me with the scenes of our lives
I have no wealth to flaunt
We’ll see each in our afterlives

One more day to need
One last kiss before I’m lifeless
My very last good deed
Before I spin the axis

One more day to pay
The price of my sins
There must be some way
To play the violins

In Search Of Penitence – Writing Prompt #131 “NoEnd House Part 9″ and Wordle 223

dscn2058

In this empty vessel
The end full of brambles
My body’s bleeding
My veins’ weeping
In search of penitence
Not the end of judgment
For things I’ve done
No facts, just cheap pun
And things I’ve omitted
I’d go back if I would
Hush, don’t say a word
I know I have erred
Don’t mention my name
It’s such a shame
Until I have paid for my sins
When I can raise high my chin
Corrected the wrong ones
Give hope to my sons
Walked the dusty long road
A steady support flowed
Swam the deep blue seas
And walk with ease
Made a big burning fire
People can admire
And turned the stone
New leaf on my own
